Swancor Regener Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Swancor Investment Holdings, and Chien Fu Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., successfully built 【Taiwan's first recyclable and reusable CT1 class fishing vessel - Weiyong No. 3】, which recently held a launching ceremony at Pingtung East Port, representing Taiwan's shipbuilding industry has officially entered a new era of circular economy.
Solve the long-term environmental problems of the fishing vessel industry
Thermosetting fiber composites (FRP) have long been widely used in industries such as ships, wind power blades, and automobiles due to their lightweight, high strength, corrosion resistance, and good insulation properties, effectively improving product safety and durability. However, FRP materials cannot be decomposed and recycled due to their special chemical structure, which has become a serious challenge for global environmental protection.
Although traditional FRP fishing vessels solve the problem of wooden boats being vulnerable to wind and wave damage, improving the safety of maritime operations, they face unmanageable difficulties after the end of their life cycle. In recent years, public landfills have stopped receiving industrial waste after the disintegration of fishing vessels, which indirectly leads to abandoned fishing boats tilting on the shore in the port area from north to south, which not only occupies the fish unloading area and port space, but also becomes a major burden on the environment.
Innovative material technology leads the circular economy
Since 2022, Swancor has launched the EzCiclo recyclable thermosetting resin system and CleaVER degradable circular economy low-carbon technology, which fundamentally solves the problem that FRP materials cannot be recycled for 90 years. This innovative technology not only breaks through traditional limitations but also opens up a new path for sustainable development in the FRP industry. EzCiclo Recyclable Thermoset Resin has obtained DNV certification, demonstrating its technical strength and safety performance. Through CleaVER technology, end-of-life hull materials can be completely recycled and reused, realizing resource recycling and significantly reducing waste disposal costs and environmental burdens.

Swancor and the third-generation successor of Chien Fu Shipbuilding Group, General Manager Zeng Yiting, hit it off, and both parties are determined to jointly build Taiwan's first recyclable fishing boat. The successful launch of Weiyong 3 represents a key step in Taiwan's shipbuilding industry on the road to sustainable development. This innovative project was also recognized by Taiwan Glass and sponsored fiberglass, forming a three-power alliance to jointly turn Taiwan's tourist fishing port into a fishing boat cemetery. Weiyong 3 can not only be fully recycled and reused when it reaches the end of its service life, but also serve as a sustainable model for shipyards around the world, enhancing the sustainable image of Taiwanese fishing vessels on the international stage.
